"My intent is to create a beautiful and disturbing place where the environment seemed to have produced some of its own sculpture."

Kim Turos, San Jose Museum Atrium Installation

"Inspired by the artist's residence and work environment in Southern, California, Turos' installation juxtaposed elements that evoked a tropical desert atmosphere with those that suggested uncontrolled urban growth. Large, pod-like forms meant to represent different stages of metamorphosis were suspended against a backdrop of living plants. In the middle of this lush environment was a solid, rectangular mass composed of sculpted material and sections of California roadway. Like a forest in nature, the appearance of this work changed at different times of the day - transforming with fluctuations of light level and wind speed."
    SJMA Assistant Curator Karen Kienzle

"The stunning projections, which ranged from pictures of blocks of ice in water to light that suggested polar emanations from both sea and sky, lent the work a sustained meditative beauty."

"A house by Glass Associates with Kim Turos gathers strength from its serene, confident design."
